Fisherfield hills                On the return from the start of the RLS way, I emptied all that hiking gear and started airing the tent, as the very next day I had to start packing for the fisher field hills, the plan was one night in a tent and sleeping gear that can be left in bobs car, another backpack loaded ready to go for two overnight self-sufficient camps three days hiking, I’m not experienced enough with this and not done it regularly enough to know exactly what to take, some stuff was easy like the thermarest tent and sleeping bag, just carry my lightest of these, a great chance to try out my new elephants foot sleeping bag puffy jacket combo, food was tricky three days’ worth to carry, waterproof’s change of clothes hats gloves all took a lot of thinking time, I was basically still packing when bob arrived at six at night for our drive to Tim and T`s camp site near fisher field, the camp site was ...

Waking up in a warm bed to a pre-set alarm my breakfast order was in the previous night, I was looking forward to some vegetarian sausage and haggis with beans and eggs, it was wonderful then I got showered clean dry clothes on, wet stuff now all dried out and put into my backpack I was good to go by nine AM.   Having received text messages from Sheila and bob- Sheila to say she was heading home from mull so passing close by if I wanted picked up somewhere, I could then have a couple of dry days at home? Bob to say he and Tim were heading for a few days hiking in the fisherfield hills! Both of which sounded like awesome opportunities I accepted both kind offers,             Leaving the B&B feeling I had plenty time to walk the short distance to the Clachaig where I would be meeting Sheila when she managed to get away from work and drive there, I decided to stop at the glen Coe folk museum which I thoroughly enjoyed...

I had put ear plugs in before getting to sleep in the tent due to the noise of the wind, this wind also whistle under the tent outer and through the lightweight flynet (there’s always a price to pay for lightweight) this was a cold wind, I went to sleep well wrapped up taking care to also place a windproof layer on top of my down, as the wind seems to blow your heat away if you don’t, I tossed and turned throughout the night but was comfortable enough to the extent I did not want to get out of bed at 08:00, especially as the forecast wind and rain was upon me, I knew once out of this tent I was going to be hosed on by cold rain for the rest of that day,                Deciding before even starting to walk that if an opportunity for some motorized transport to the ferry presented itself I would take it, I even decided I would try a bit of hitchhiking at appropriate vehicles, marching with full waterproofs on a...

RLS-2 getting of Mull

I opened the tent fly net zipper and exit flap to go for a morning pee, planning on setting up a nice morning coffee with terrific views from my tent, I had pitched it the previous evening with the opening facing ben mull for my morning coffee view, the place was absolutely hoatching with midges I couldn’t stand still never mind laze in the tent with a coffee enjoying the view! I packed as much as I could inside the tent, then donning full midge PPE I set about placing everything except the tent a distance away from the camping area, I hoped this would fox the midges away from my stuff while I got the tent down with head net on and gloves, the coffee would have to wait! It had rained through the night the tent was packed damply Once on the go it was all single-track road with passing places nearly all of mull is, I had been walking a couple of hours before the drizzle rain started, this is the sort of rain where you wonder is it worthwhile putting on waterproofs for? I o...
